Description of CSTM (China Science and Technology Museum)

 

As the only national comprehensive science and technology museum, China Science and Technology Museum first opened to the public in September 1988. Once built an expansion in 2000, the new premises opened in September 2009, which is occupying an area of 48,000 square meters and with a construction scale of 102,000 square meters. The main structure of the architecture is a gigantic “magic cube”, which implying that knowledge can be unlocked through science.

The exhibitions are organized under five themes, which includes one for interactive games, on that displays ancient Chinese technology, one exhibits new scientific breakthroughs, one focuses on daily life, and one emphasize the future. There are also for special- effect film theaters, including a 4D one and the world’s largest ball-screen theater (30 meters in diameter, 1300sqm) displaying astronomical phenomena. The museum is also equipped with laboratories, classrooms, auditoriums, and multifunction halls.

Through the interactive exhibits and different kinds of scientific experiments and training, the China Science and Technology Museum speeds up the process of science popularization in the country and increases a scientific literacy of all citizens.

The New China Science and Technology Museum is located at No. 5 Beichen East Road, Chaoyang District, at the north of the Bird’s Nest.
